What it costs to study in Germany?

In the past some federal states in Germany charged tuition fees until 2014,at the moment students at public higher education institutions in Germany don’t have to pay tuition fees. For some master’s programs in Germany, tuition fees may apply. In some states, such as Baden-Württemberg, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, Saxony, and Thuringia, you have to pay only an administration fee of usually 50 EUR per semester to support the teachers. Tuition fees are only applied in some federal states to long-term students  who are not able to finish their study program within the designated time. These states are: Bremen, Lower Saxony, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. This means that now, both domestic and international undergraduate students at public universities in Germany are able to study in Germany for free, with just a small fee to cover administration and other costs per semester.

According to DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), the cost on average to study in Germany stands at US$10,520 per year, covering tuition fees, food, accommodation and transportation. This is far less than in countries like USA where fees and living costs are outrageously high. This figures are just averages, hence any student wishing to study in Germany should check on the living cost in his area and tuition in his particular university before going in for this venture.
Depending on whether a university is private or public, tuition fees could go as high as $20,000 for private schools, though most German Universities are public -owned. A private university like University of Witten-Herdecke, charges $15,000 for a degree program though its students may choose to pay their fees while working with a percentage from their income.
